Tushar Arothe resigns as India Women's coach

The resignation of Arothe is the second instance in the CoA tenure where the national coach has resigned in response to variances of opinions with players. Last year, Indian men's cricket team head coach Anil Kumble resigned after his much-publicised differences with captain Virat Kohli.

India Women's Cricket Team Coach Tushar Arothe has stepped down from the role citing personal reasons, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Tuesday.

After the resignation, a senior BCCI official said that it was nearly final after the meeting between administrators and senior players. In the meeting, BCCI acting Secretary Amitabh Chaudhary, GM (Cricket Operations) Saba Karim and CEO Rahul Johri were also present. In response, Tushar Arothe had made it clear that the final decision of coaching tactics lay with the coaching staff and not the players.

Arothe, who played for Baroda, had led the team in the 50-over World Cup final in England a year ago. In 2018, the team won the three-match ODI series and five-match T20I series in South Africa. The team had a tiresome T20 tri-series against Australia and England in India. Thereafter, Kaur and her girls floundered in the triangular series featuring Australia and England and the failures are suspected to have played a part in the souring of their relationship.

Four months before the T20 World Cup in West Indies, Indian women's cricket team coach Tushar Arothe has stepped down from his assigned role on Tuesday.

However, it was twin defeat against minnows Bangladesh in the Asia Cup including one in the final, that became the last straw.

One of the major reason of discontent was Arothe's training methods. However, with India ending runners-up to England at the mega-event, Arothe, along with assistant coach Biju George and physiotherapist Tracy Fernandes, were handed a two-year contract by the BCCI.

A BCCI official stated that they will put up an advertisement again and an interview will follow it.
