There's a new tropical depression in the central Atlantic, and it could strengthen and become Tropical Storm Beryl as soon as today. The storm had maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour as it moved west at 16 miles per hour.
The Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30, spared Bermuda previous year, but battered the Caribbean as well as the United States. A faster westward to west-northwestward motion is expected to begin over the weekend and continue through early next week. Beryl is the first mid-Atlantic storm to develop in July since 2014, while Alberto marked the fourth season in a row with a tropical system developing before the "official" start of the season on June 1. Tropical Depression Two was, however, expected to dissipate east of the Lesser Antilles over the weekend, the NHC said.
According to meteorologists, the maximum wind speed is 65 km/h.

But Trump said during a Montana campaign rally she should have been left alone until she made a decision to come down on her own. Trump, at a rally in Great Falls, Montana, called Okoumou a "clown" and praised the Park Police for getting her down safely.
But Invest 95L coming from the west has now reached 70 percent of probability to cause serious damage to the tropical islands. Some strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days, and Beryl could still be a hurricane when it reaches the Lesser Antilles late Sunday or Monday. "Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles [55 km] from the center".
Meanwhile, off the Carolinas, the topical depression that formed on Friday is moving to the north-northwest at 5 miles per hour with winds of 30 miles per hour. In 2017, there were 17 named tropical storms including 10 hurricanes, of which six were major hurricanes. This system appears to be less organized, the center said, and the chances for a tropical depression to form are diminishing.
Beryl's upgrade to a Category 1 storm made it the first hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane season. Even with such a far distance to travel there is already a hurricane watch for portions of the Lesser Antilles.
