Stormy Daniels, the porn star at the center of a political storm involving President Trump, has been arrested, her lawyer says.

Charges against Stormy Daniels, who was arrested on Wednesday at a strip club in OH for letting patrons touch her while on stage in what her lawyer has claimed was a "set-up", have been dropped. "This was a setup and politically motivated", he wrote on Twitter. It reeks of desperation.

ABC News reached out to Avenatti who declined to elaborate beyond his tweets.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, posted bail and was released Thursday morning, CNN reports.

The release added that Clifford, along with two employees, were charged with "Illegal Sexually Oriented Activity in a Sexual Oriented Business".

An Ohio strip club law prohibits clients from touching a nude or semi-nude dancer, unless the patron is a member of the dancer's immediate family.

While Daniels was performing Wednesday night at Sirens, a strip club in Columbus, some patrons touched her in a "non-sexual" way, Avenatti told The Associated Press.

Through White House officials, Trump has denied the affair with Daniels, although Cohen has admitted paying her $130,000 as part of the agreement.

Documents on the Franklin County Municipal Court website show that Daniels will be arraigned Friday at 9 a.m.

"Are you kidding me?" he asked.

"They are devoting law enforcement resources to sting operations for this?" There has to be higher priorities!

The actress wrote that she meant to donate tips from a planned performance at Sirens on Thursday to the other dancers' legal defense.

Police approached Daniels, who was topless and wearing a G-string, after she was seen "using her bare breasts to smack the patrons" and "fondling the breasts of the female patrons", according to an incident report published online by a local news outlet.

He initially said he used his own money to pay Daniels and was not reimbursed by Trump. Mr Trump denies all allegations.

"Saddened to hear the other 2 dancers arrested with me last night did not have their charges dropped", she tweeted.

The Chicago shows were almost canceled after a disagreement with club owners who didn't clear a Trump-related addition to the show and sold post-performance meet-and-greet tickets without her involvement, according to the Chicago Tribune.
