Kate and Meghan to attend Wimbledon to cheer on pal Serena Williams

"2017 is over and I'm glad about that".

In post-match interviews, she has talked candidly about motherhood. Since that Saturday, Williams won the 2017 Australian Open, became the winningest player of the Open era, regained the No. 1 world ranking, had a baby, got married and didn't play a tournament for 14 months. In the quarter-finals, she dropped the first set against Camilia Giorgi, ranked No.52, and had not faced a seed until playing the 13th-seeded Goerges.

"I think that's a good thing because, you know, I put so much pressure on myself when I was trying to get to 18 (major titles), then the rest, it was so much". What Federer did at the Australian Open - you prove to yourself you can win the biggest tournament in the world, or one of the biggest, and then you know you can do it again. "She does it so well".

In the first five games that went with serve, it was Goerges who made more winners, but it was Williams who broke the German to go up 4-2; after this, there was no looking back.

Williams played a total of seven matches in 2018 before arriving at the All England Club, and she'll be playing her seventh match in the last two weeks when she meets 11th-seeded Angelique Kerber of Germany in the Wimbledon final on Saturday. Williams paused, realizing she, too, was getting ahead of herself.

Serena Williams of the United States celebrates defeating Julia Goerges of Germany in their women's semifinal match at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in London on Thursday. "She's such a great opponent. I've been learning a lot from her".

Despite rumors that Williams played beer pong at the reception, the tennis great completely laughed off those claims.

Netflix receives more Emmy nominations than HBO
HBO had 108 and NBC 78. " Games of Thrones ", a worldwide hit, got 22 nods, including for the top prize of best drama series. One show that stars a pair of local natives and has been nominated in the past was shut out in every major category.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion is one match away from equaling Margaret Court's record, and yet that's somehow not on her radar.

Keen tennis fan Kate is Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, but hasn't attended the tournament so far this year as she's on maternity leave following the birth of Prince Louis. But it will be no easy road.

And, while there were plenty of doubters when Williams spluttered in the first matches of her return to action earlier this year, somehow it was never in doubt that this latest chapter in Serena's life would have a happy ending.

You have to imagine fanciful scenarios that Williams would find hard to overcome because, at this point, she is long past being hobbled by any of the normal scenarios. Kerber only had 10 winners and converted 61% of her first serve points. She's also pounded 44 aces, seen 50 percent of her first serves unreturned and hammered a 122 miles per hour ace against Camila Giorgi in the quarters.

The tables have now turned in her favor and rightfully so. Equally important will be the mental game that goes on between these two women.

"This is as well as she has played, period, in her career", said nine-time Wimbledon singles champion Martina Navratilova, commentating for the BBC.
