Former Chelsea captain Terry pays tribute to sacked Conte

English Premier League club, Chelsea have reportedly sacked Antonio Conte as their manager after finally reaching an agreement to terminate his contract.

The Italian had two contrasting campaigns at the helm and has now vacated his post.

However, the Blues finished outside the top four this past season and couldn't get bast Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

Relations between Conte and the Chelsea hierarchy had always been hard but deteriorated markedly over a hard second season with regular disagreements over transfer policy.

The off-field controversies bled onto the pitch and the west Londoners flattered to deceive. However, the club finished fifth a year ago and there were rampant rumours that the Italian was going to leave.

It had been expected that Chelsea would replace Conte with Napoli's Maurizio Sarri, and this became even more likely when Napoli went and replaced Sarri with Carlo Ancelotti.

"Fair play to him, they've done well, they've been playing well for two years".

Sarri could be followed by midfielder Jorginho from Napoli, with Chelsea willing to pay £50m, plus £7m in bonuses, for the pair.

Conte led Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first season in England in 2016-17 and followed up that achievement with the FA Cup triumph this year, but his relationship with the board became damaged beyond fix, highlighted by his repeated public and private complaints about transfer policy.

Everyone seems to know who their new manager is going to be, but Leeds United fans will be far more concerned with the impact that Conte's departure could have on their club. This is bad news for Manchester City, who had supposedly arranged a deal for Jorginho, have been left with little other than an apology from De Laurentiis.

Securing a deal for both Sarri and Jorginho would be a huge boost for Chelsea, given that the club has been stuck in limbo for some time.

Sarri, who helped Napoli mount a sustained Serie A title challenge last season, is set to manage the Blues in the forthcoming season.
