MADRID: Real Madrid on Tuesday announced the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo to Italy´s Juventus, with the Portuguese superstar saying the time had come "for a new stage" in his life.

On the same day, Italian soccer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, was in Madrid to meet Real's president Florentino Perez and discuss a contract extension for his client.

Ronaldo has had several rocky offseasons and has been linked with a move away from Real Madrid all the time.

After joining Madrid in 2009 for a then world-record £80million fee, Ronaldo now appears close to joining Juventus in an £88million deal.

He spent six seasons in England, winning three Premier League titles, one Champions League title and one FA Cup.

He declared: "If this transfer were to materialise, I'd be happy for the club and the fans".

"I only have feelings of enormous gratitude for this club and for this city", Ronaldo wrote.

Gareth Southgate has imbued a confidence within his young players that will lead them to believe that anything is possible. For them, the real red letter day was a 3-2 win over the reigning world champions in 1967.

If all goes to plan, the Old Lady are hoping to push through a club record £88m deal for Ronaldo in the hopes that he can inspire them to their third European title, following five consecutive final defeats. "I feel that way and I ask everyone, and especially our followers, to please understand me". On an individual basis, with the Real Madrid jersey he has won 4 Gold Balls, 2 The Best, and 3 Gold Boots, among many other awards.

Real Madrid will always be your home.

Ronaldo recently captained Portugal at the World Cup, scoring an incredible hat-trick in the country's opening match 3-3 draw against rivals Spain.

He said: "It was very nice to be at Madrid".

"I have had nine absolutely wonderful years at the club".
