The redesigned 2019 Volvo S60 due to be revealed on June 20 will be the first of the Swedish automaker's cars to receive the new Polestar Engineered treatment. These Polestar Engineered cars all come with badges, black chrome exhaust pipes and golden seatbelts to better distinguish them from lesser-tuned Volvos.

The Polestar Engineered upgrade package for the Volvo S60, V60 and XC60 T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrids has been detailed, ahead of the S60's formal debut next week.

Volvo will reveal the new S60 next week at its first U.S. manufacturing plant in Charleston, South Carolina. "Today starts a new era of Volvo electrified models enhanced by Polestar's performance engineering prowess".

Nonetheless, this latest S60 - Volvo's premiere sports sedan, says Samuelsson - is an impressive piece of kit. The yellow hue is to become the new hallmark color for Polestar. The plant is the sole production site for the new S60, which is the first Volvo auto made in the US.

Volvo's T8 powertrain is comprised of a 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged engine, with an additional battery and electric motor mounted at the rear axle.

Suspension tweaks include the addition of Öhlins shock absorbers with dual-flow valves, as well as the adoption of strut bar and adjustable shock absorber designs from the Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid performance vehicle.

Indeed, Volvo recently announced that all of its future Polestar products - think Mercedes-Benz's AMG or BMW's M products - would be electric. "This strategy is firmly grounded in our shared belief in an electric future for the auto industry", said Håkan Samuelsson, president and CEO at Volvo Cars.

Henrik Green, senior vice-president of research and development at Volvo, said that the parts have been "fine-tuned to work together, delivering a responsive and exciting driver's car".
