North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his commitment to "complete denuclearisation of Korean Peninsula", in a joint agreement signed with US President Donald Trump Tuesday.

He gestured for an aide to open the door to the auto - many of whose features are highly classified - and even appeared to be inviting the North Korean despot in for a look around.

"The discussions between the United States and North Korea are ongoing and have moved more quickly than expected", the White House said in a statement.

"We are hopeful this summit will have set the conditions for future successful talks", Pompeo said on Monday evening. The White House said the daylong summit would also include a working lunch and a larger meeting involving aides to both leaders.

The last-minute change of schedule came as both sides finalized preparations for the meeting.

Speaking to reporters after the historic summit, Trump said he told Kim that instead of testing ballistic missiles, the cash-strapped country "could have the best hotels in the world".
