Women's T20 Challenge: BCCI announces Trailblazers and Supernovas teams

With an eye on growing this wave, the BCCI is hosting the T20 Challenge to provide the women's game a platform alongside its most popular tournament.

IPL Supernova: Harmanpreet Kaur (captain), Danielle Wyatt, Mithali Raj, Meg Lanning, Sophie Devine, Ellyse Perry, Veda Krishnamurthy, Mona Meshram, Pooja Vastrakar, Megan Schutt, Rajseshwari Gayakwad, Anuja Patil, Taniya Bhatia (wicket-keeper).

"The opportunity to play ahead of the men's IPL match, it was hard to turn that down", said New Zealand's Sophie Devine, who was announced for the match.

BCCI had earlier announced that Harmanpreet and opener Smriti Mandhana will be the captains, and the teams names have been announced as IPL Supernovas and IPL Trailblazers respectively. Rajeev Shukla, Chairman, IPL, said, "We were in talks with several Boards and I am pleased with the outcome".

The T20 match will begin at 14:00 IST and will be followed by the IPL 2018 Qualifier 1 at 19:00 IST.

Meanwhile, attacking bat and India women's T20 vice-captain, Smriti Mandhana will lead IPL Trailblazers.

Top global stars like Australians Alyssa Healy and Meg Lanning will be seen in action in the upcoming one-off Women's T20 Challenge match to be played on May 22 ahead of the IPL Qualifier 1 in Mumbai.

"This is being staged as a well-deserved exhibition to showcase the tremendous depth and capability that women's cricket in India has achieved. It just shows that the women's game is on the up", she added.
