President Trump on Friday told the 2018 graduates of the US Naval Academy that were now among the leaders of the most powerful military in the world - and that because of his administration, the US was "respected again".

Trump culminated the section of his address with a simple declaration: "America is back". Trump repeatedly warned Thursday the US military would be ready if Kim reacted "foolishly" and the region returned to heightened tensions.

"These fine sailors have spent the last several years preparing to lead the United States Navy in both times of peace and crisis", said President Trump. "We are not going to apologize for America". "We have rediscovered our identity, regained our stride and we're proud again".

His remarks come a day after he cancelled a planned summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un amid aggressive language from that country.

Attendees of the Naval Academy commencement in Annapolis, Maryland probably had no doubt who President Trump was referring to in his speech.

"We've gained the respect that we used to have long ago". "And if a fight must come there is no other alternative: Victory, winning, lovely words, but that's what it's all about". "We are not going to apologize for America, we are going to stand up for America".

Trump says Friday in Annapolis that "we will have the strongest military that we ever had". "What should I do?" the president asked rhetorically, canvassing the audience.

In a scathing op-ed written for the Baltimore Sun, USNA graduates Daniel Barkhuff and William Burke write about men who are true profiles in courage who could give Navy grads real advice on their future careers - and they contrast them unfavorably with Trump. "I fought for you", the president said. Winning is such a great feeling, isn't it a great feeling?
