Internal Documents Reveal Apple Knew iPhone 6 Would Likely Bend

According to court documents, Apple knew that the iPhone 6 was 3.3 times more likely to bend than the iPhone 5s, and the iPhone 6 Plus was 7.2 times more likely to fold. Last December, the company admitted to secretly slowing down the performance of certain iPhone models to offset errors caused by the aging batteries inside.

Customers who paid for an out-of-warranty battery replacement for the iPhone 6 or later devices between January 1, 2017, and December 28, 2017, may be eligible to receive a $50 credit.

Apple, late past year made headlines when it was found that the company deliberately throttles performance of some iPhones to save battery life and prevent unexpected device shutdowns. The practice prompted questions from lawmakers, government-agency investigations, lawsuits and more.

There's been a supremely high demand for the battery replacements at the reduced rate, with some customers having to wait weeks for an available appointment at their local Apple Store.

Boxer Jack Johnson is posthumously pardoned by Trump
McCain has called on presidents to pardon Johnson since 2004, when he introduced a resolution calling on then-President George W. The pardon for Johnson has received bipartisan support in Congress for years, including from Sens.

Anyone that's eligible for the credit will be contacted before 27 July.

Some see a connection between the bending and the so-called "Touch Disease" that made the touchscreen on several iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units unresponsive. Apple was ordered to turn over internal testing documents and reports as part of discovery in the case.

To make up for the incident, the company this year began slashing the out-of-warranty battery replacement price on affected iPhones from $79 to $29.

Note: If you got a battery replacement while your phone was in warranty, you aren't eligible for a credit. The discount lasts until the end of this year (or at least, it should). If you feel you are eligible for a credit but aren't contacted by Apple, you can contact Apple support directly.
