Harvey Weinstein: the remarkable downfall of Hollywood's biggest mogul

The disgraced producer's walk into the courthouse was a grim inversion of the red carpets he'd walk at the height of his power.

Disgraced Hollywood powerbroker Harvey Weinstein was arrested and charged on Friday with rape and sex crimes on two women, almost eight months after his career imploded in a blaze of assault accusations that triggered the global #MeToo movement. He was processed, fingerprinted and had a mugshot taken.

As part of a bail package negotiated in advance, Weinstein will put up $one million in cash and agree to wearing a monitoring device.

Actress Rose McGowan, who accused Harvey Weinstein of rape, applauded the arrest of the Hollywood media mogul in NY on Friday.

The charges stem from incidents with two separate women, the NYPD said in a statement, and were the result of a joint investigation between police and the Manhattan district attorney's office. Vance also urged other survivors to contact them.

Weinstein's lawyer Benjamin Brafman spoke out following the ruling. His attorney told reporters outside court that Weinstein meant to plead not guilty to all four charges announced Friday.

McGowan also made video interview appearances Friday morning on The Associated Press and "Megyn Kelly Today".

This morning, Harvey Weinstein arrived at the 1st precinct police station in New York City to turn himself in to face charges of rape and sex abuse.

At least one woman's allegation of sexual assault, Lucia Evans, has reportedly been the first to reach charges. Since then, more than 80 women have come forward with their own experiences.

In a statement announcing the deal, NBC said it was "beyond excited to reboot "Project Runway" at the network where it all began". "I have since learned it's not an excuse, in the office - or out of it". "They were you know put through the wringer and I can't help but think of those women right now". I appreciate the way I've behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it. "That is my commitment". Reps for Weinstein have consistently denied that he has ever engaged in non-consensual sex. Weinstein would later check himself into rehab in Arizona. A few, including Asia Argento and Rose McGowan, said they were raped.

Mr Weinstein was sacked previous year from his production firm, the Weinstein Company, which later filed for bankruptcy.

The reports gave rise to the #MeToo movement on social media. Some women's groups, including the Hollywood activist group Time's Up, accused the Democrat of being too deferential to Weinstein and too dismissive of his accusers.

Evans told The New Yorker magazine in October that Weinstein forced her to perform a sexual act on him during a meeting at his office in New York City. I have moments of rage, I have moments of confusion, I have moments of disbelief! "I would say it's just so big".

"I keep thinking of all the women that I've talked to and I met over this period of time who have worked so hard and been so fearless and have suffered so much and put themselves on the line to commit to bringing him down because they believe he deserves that", Kendall added.

With detectives watching and recording, Mr. Weinstein and Ms. Battilana met at the TriBeCa Grand, where Mr. Weinstein acknowledged he had touched her breasts and promised not to do so again.
