Arkansas State Troopers and other participating Arkansas law enforcement officers will join officers in six states next week in a coordinated Click It or Ticket/Border to Border enforcement operation. Motor vehicle occupants who buckle up increase their chances of surviving a crash by as much as 75 percent. The front seat belt usage rate in New Jersey now stands at 94.07%. "Simply buckling up can save your life and the life of your passenger". As a result of the effort, law enforcement officers issued 17,792 seat belt citations, 6,363 speeding summonses and made 976 impaired driving arrests. "Our whole goal is to try to save life to make sure everybody knows that each time that you go on the road, you have to buckle up", said Karla Lipford, West Tennessee liaison for the "Click it or Ticket" campaign. It also requires all children less than 15 years of age to be properly secured in the vehicle.
Aimed at enforcing seat belt use to help keep families safe, the national seat belt campaign will take place Monday, May 21 through Sunday, June 3, concurrent with one of the busiest travel and holiday weekends of the year.
An increased police presence will stress the proper use of seat belts and making sure all young passengers are properly restrained inside moving vehicles with auto seats or booster seats.
