Christina Aguilera is back with new single 'Accelerate,' produced by Kanye West

The 37-year-old singer was a coach on the show on-and-off between 2011 to 2016 and has revealed she didn't like how it stifled her creativity and self-expression. Ty Dolla and 2 Chainz do not make an appearance in the video for the unconventional song, which you can watch below. It has been almost six years since she last rolled out an album, and today's release confirms it was worth the wait.

The track is hip-hop inspired with a heavy beat, and was produced by Kanye West. The actress also said that the show was not exactly what she had thought it would be. "Accelerate", the lead single from her upcoming album, Liberation, is similarly barebones.

Her previous albums include her two United Kingdom number ones Back To Basics (2006) and Bionic (2010), and number two album Stripped (2002).

According to Billboard, the new album, called Liberation, is out June 15 and will contain 15 tracks (one with a Demi Lovato duet-yes!) from the new, fresh-faced Aguilera.

Of the album, Aguilera told United States music site Billboard: "To me, there's nothing like an awesome hip-hop beat".

The reason for this is Aguilera says is that she was in it for the music, but in her mind that's not what the show became. At the end of the day, I am a soul singer. Outside of, you know, his controversial aspects, I just think he's a great artist and musicmaker and beatmaker.
