The entire school district is on lockdown, district officials said.
Police were dispatched after a report of shots fired at the school, located at 16000 Hwy 6 in Galveston County.
Police confirm that they are responding to an "active shooter situation" at Santa Fe High School.

One student told KTRK his friend pulled the school fire alarm after spotting a suspect with a gun. "We will send out additional information as soon as it is available", the statement read.
The district didn't provide further details.

Westwood One reports at least one student says she saw her friend get shot. She said students escaped through a door at the back of the classroom. This is an unconfirmed report.
Houston-area media reported that the Harris County and Galveston County sheriff's offices were also sending deputies to the scene, and that a medical Life Flight was called to the school.
There was a large law enforcement response to the same school in February when it was placed on lockdown after students and teachers said they heard "popping sounds".
Officers from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have been scrambled to the scene. Santa Fe is roughly 36 miles outside of Houston.
"We're now in protect mode as a precaution because of reports of a shooting at Santa Fe HS".
