Tiger Woods to play in Wells Fargo Championship, reports say

Tiger Woods is ready to get back on the course as he's expected to commit to next week's Wells Fargo Championship, Golf Channel reported Thursday.

Tiger is a two-time victor at THE PLAYERS, picking up titles in 2001 and 2013. Woods is a two-time champion of the THE PLAYERS, having won in both 2001 and 2013.

Wilmington hosted last year's Wells Fargo event because Quail Hollow was the site of the PGA Championship.

The 14-time major victor will return to Quail Hollow for first time since 2012, making his seventh career trip to Charlotte, N.C. He won the event in 2007.

On Friday Phil Mickelson also committed to play in the 2018 tournament.

Woods will make his first start at the Players since 2015. He recently earned his 43rd PGA TOUR win at the WGC-Mexico Championship in a playoff against reigning FedExCup champion Justin Thomas, 23 years his junior.

Lee Patterson, a spokesman for the Wells Fargo Championship, said the tournament has not yet heard from Tiger's representatives that he will be playing.
