Lok Adalat settles 74518 pending cases in TN


MASLSA maintained that media play a valuable role in spreading information, awareness and attracting people to settle their disputes through Lok Adalat and the same is highly appreciated.

As many as 100 cases of various natures were taken up, out of which various cases were settled amicably during the Lok Adalat which held at CJM court Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara District on Sunday. The settled cases included 6,988 pre-litigation cases and 5,854 court pending cases of all categories.

Telangana State Legal Services Authority in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authorities organised the bi-monthly National Lok Adalat under the patronage of Justice Ramesh Ranganathan, Acting Chief Justice of High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad for the States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and Patron-in-Chief of Telangana State Legal Services Authority. The function was inaugurated by Principal District and Sessions Judge Omprakash Pandey. 15938 pending litigations and 7960 Pre-litigation matters were kept for settlement, out of which 8760 pending cases and 1203 pre-litigation cases were disposed of.

An amount of Rs 56.02 crore was awarded as compensation, according to a statement.

Disputes including cheque bounce, bank loan and property recoveries, employment issues at companies, factories and industries, criminal cases that can be compromised, family disputes, divorce cases, child custody rights cases, payment of alimony by husbands to wives, motor vehicles cases, pension cases, electricity and water bill disputes, land acquisition and revenue disputes, house and property rent and lease disputes and other cases were heard at the Lok Adalat today. If no settlement is arrived at the Lok Adalat, the parties can continue with court proceedings.

National Lok Adalat is held at regular intervals throughout the country and the State Legal Services Authorities, which are statutory bodies constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987, act as the implementing agency.
