Literally created to star in a series of titles that could be called Macho Bullsh*t: The Game, rattling through God of War was a glorious blur of ripped torsos, severed limbs, gushings of claret and a late 90s wrestling approach to dialogue.

God of War officially launches on Friday, April 20, but exact launch times vary by region.

God of War is the new entry into the third-person action franchise and while it shares the name of its predecessors, it is a different beast entirely. As I collaborated with game director Cory Barlog, it became clear that this new game would require wholly new music that did not revisit the memorable scores of the original games, but instead ventured forth into new musical territory.

Holiday 2018 is a likely release date, if Ubisoft plans to alternate Assassin's Creed and Watch Dogs releases. Ubisoft has killed it at the past few E3's, announcing major titles like Mario+Rabbids and Skull and Bones.

Elsewhere, God of War now ties with the remastered version of PS3's The Last of Us and nudges ahead of its closest rivals like Persona 5, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. However, he admitted that the game would have turned out to be a very different game if that had happened.

God of War lead level designer Rob Davis also revealed that Atreus' role in the game provides a mix of unique gameplay and story opportunities.

Interestingly, Kratos' relationship with his son mirrors Barlog's real-life experience. And, in this game, he'd been trying to avoid it, even though he wants to figure this out, he'd been avoiding it for so long, the beginning of this game is all about forcing him into that situation.
