Two militants killed in Dooru gunfight


The gunfight that started on Friday in Dooru area of Anantnag in south Kashmir ended with the killing of two militants, police said today.

Police also said that two AK-47 rifles, grenades and other ammunition were recovered from the encounter spot.

Acting on specific information about the presence of militants in Shistragam village in Dooru area of Anantnag, security forces launched a search and cordon operation in the area late on Friday night, a police official said.

"The encounter broke out at Shistargam Dooru area of Anantnag district. Operation concluded. Keep up the good work boys", Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Shesh Paul Vaid said.

The gunfight erupted when the terrorists, who were hiding in the forest, fired at a security force party comprising personnel from the Rashtriya Rifles and the J-K police's Special Operations Group (SOG) and were aided by the Army's Para special forces. A police official also stated that people are being questioned as they try to ascertain the identity of the terrorists.
