The source claims that LG Display has been tasked with making more panels with a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution - aka Retina Displays.

According to this new report from DigiTimes, the new entry-level MacBook is likely to have a similar price tag to the MacBook Air, which starts to $999. The company could have plans to unveil a lower priced Retina MacBook that replaces the MacBook Air at the event. Market intelligence reckons that the new MacBook will be priced in the same region as the existing MacBook Air or slightly higher. These are thought to be for a new MacBook Air, which now comes with a 1,440 x 900 resolution screen. The new design seeks to keep crumbs and dust out of Apple's laptop scissor switches.

However, if this new MacBook is not in the "Air" family, it is likely we could see two new entry-level prices for the Air and Retina MacBook lines.

Digitimes goes on to claim that Apple's preferred supplier for MacBook panels will be South Korea-based LG Display, considering the Cupertino giant had issues with a certain China-based vendor. The MacBook, meanwhile, has a 12-inch display with 2304 x 1440 resolution.

Digitimes Research senior analyst Jim Hsiao expects shipments for the new MacBook to reach around four million units in 2018. Quanta Computer won 70% of the orders, and Foxconn the rest.

Meanwhile, the upstream supply chain has recently begun shipping components for iPad Pro upgrades and a new affordable 9.7-inch iPad - a refreshed version of its 2017 counterpart.
