National parks wave entrance fee for MLK Day

United Way for Greater Austin is hosting several MLK Day of Service initiatives across the area, some of which span Saturday and Monday. None of the African-Americans who Trump gathered to support him for the holiday were willing to answer questions about the president's comments afterward.

A special program begins at 9 a.m., where Former State Rep. Tyrone Ellis will speak. Most events are free, but some require registration. The event features student performances based on the Langston Hughes poem "A Dream Deferred".

When: Jan. 15, 10:30 a.m.

On Sunday, two-time national college football champion Caleb Castille will headline a youth event at 4 p.m.

In order to increase recreational access to public land, the Bureau of Land Management will waive recreation-related fees for visitors to public lands on Martin Luther King, Jr.

We Still Have a Dream: Martin Luther King Jr. While history often talks about the men marching with King, it sometimes leaves out the women who supported families and whole communities during the Civil Rights Era up to today.

Also, during the event, the city gave out Peacemakers awards to Clark County high school students. United Blood Services will have a blood drive Monday from 11 a.m. -3 p.m., at the Aquaplex, 1702 N. Fourth St.

At the end of the parade, the City of New Orleans will host its inaugural Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Michael Ramsdail, of Lighthouse Fellowship Church.

We all know that despite much progress, America is still an economically and socially divided nation, and that this phase of King's inspirational movement still has miles to go.
