Kenya Airways starts process of direct flights to NY


On Thursday, KQ started selling tickets for the inaugural and later flights between Nairobi and NY price-tagged $869 (Sh87 000) for the early worms but said the prices would increase depending on demand.

The flight is scheduled to leave JKIA at 10:30pm every day, lasting for a duration of 15 hours - a significant reduction from the current 22 hours required for the journey.

It will then leave NY at 12.25 pm the same day and land in Nairobi at 10.55 am the following day.

"This is an exciting moment for us".

Kenya Airways will operate two Boeing 787 Dreamliners on the route with daily flights.

Prior to the announcement of the new flight, Kenya and Kenya Airways went through stringent assessments before achieving Category 1 status for safety standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization, a requirement for direct flights to the U.S. From New-York it will depart at 12:25 landing at JKIA at 10:55 the following day.

It continues to modernize its fleet with its 32 aircrafts being some of the youngest in Africa.
