Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrives today on six day visit

After his arrival, Netanyahu and PM Modi are likely to visit the Teen Murti Circle in New Delhi where the two leaders will lay a wreath at the monument, where the "Haifa liberation day" is commemorated every year on September 23.

On his part, PM Netanyahu thanked his "good friend" Modi for the welcome accorded to him.

He will also meet his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi and hold delegation level talks. The last time an Israeli prime minister came to India - a country of 1.3 billion people - was in 2003, when Ariel Sharon arrived but abruptly cut his visit short to return to Israel to deal with a terrorist attack.

Modi would be accompanying Netanyahu to Gujarat on Wednesday where he will be welcomed in the same fashion as Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was with a road show in Ahmedabad. A meeting with President Kovind is also scheduled for Monday.

During his three day visit in Israel, Indian delicacies were specially cooked for PM Modi by an Israeli chef of Indian origin, a personal favourite of Netanyahu's. In Ahmedabad, he will visit Sabarmati Ashram. They will also visit the iCreate innovation campus and center.

Over the course of the visit, Israel and India will sign a series of bilateral agreements.
