In embarrassing mishap, wing panel of Japan PM's official jet falls off

Moon had stated that while it is "undeniable" that the deal is an official bilateral agreement, the "erroneous knot" with Japan over the "comfort women" issue must be untied by Tokyo apologising to the victims. Under the agreement, Japan apologized and paid 1 billion yen ($8.9 million) to a Korea-run foundation to support the victims in return for Seoul's promise not to raise the issue again in global forums.

January 11, 2018 (EIRNS)-Following his meeting with Toshihiro Nikai, Secretary General of Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party, and Yoshihisa Inoue, Secretary General of the Komeito Party (the LDP's coalition partner), Premier Shinzo Abe said Japan will "properly respond to" individual cooperation programs related to the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, Xinhua reported. "It is also important to deal with Korea's relationship with Japan carefully".

Abe's six-day tour will also take him to the two other Baltic countries, Latvia and Lithuania, as well as Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania, making him the first Japanese prime minister to visit those countries. It said it would consult with Japan on what to do with the funds already given by the country.

However, Moon said in December that the wartime sexual slavery issue can not be resolved by the 2015 deal with Japan, as a secret agreement was found between the two countries after reviewing the procedure of the deal. "We can not accept South Korea's unilateral demands for additional measures".

According to Forbes , Durachinsky has been in custody since he was arrested in January a year ago and is now awaiting trial. He then gave his findings to law enforcement, which may have provided the evidence used to bring this week's indictment.

Moon invited Abe to attend the PyeongChang Olympics to be held here next month, but he will reportedly not attend the opening ceremony in what could be a sign of Japan's unease over latest developments regarding the deal. Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary later played down the report, saying it was not yet decided.

Adding that the comfort women issue has been dug up over and over again for "domestic political gain", he cited that historians have found that South Korean soldiers were culpable of raping Vietnamese women during the Vietnam War, as he called this an "uncomfortable truth" that Seoul has glossed over.

The deal prompted strong protests from some victims and their rights groups here.

Moon had lambasted the agreement on the campaign trail and was elected president in May after Park was impeached and jailed over a massive corruption scandal.
