IED defused at HMT, 2 injured in army firing


Srinagar [Jammu and Kashmir], January 13 (NT): The Armed forces on Saturday defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) installed near HMT Road in Srinagar of Jammu and Kashmir.

An official said that the IED weighing almost five kilograms was planted by the militants in HMT area of Srinagar.

"The IED was defused by the bomb disposal squad without causing any damage", said the police.

The official said that a major tragedy was averted by the forces by defusing the IED. Officials said both were stable, adding that the vehicle did not stop at the checking point when it was asked to stop by Armymen.

He said after receiving inputs, CRPF, police and army men launched a cordon and search operation in HMT and its adjoining areas. "If it would have been a (land) mine, how a person could have lifted it?" he said.
