'Detective Pikachu' (3DS) Gets Release Date - Trailer

The game was previously announced in Japan and released in February of 2016, and now after two years it will be releasing in the West in English. Western players will receive both episodes with their purchase.

Oh, one last thing: you don't actually play as Detective Pikachu in the game, you play as his new human friend "Tim Goodman" (which sounds like an alias if I've ever heard one).

Detective Pikachu will be launching in the United States with a special new amiibo. This amiibo features a sleuthing Pikachu that's larger than the standard amiibo, and when used with your game, it can unlock short videos that may contain helpful hints for your investigation.

This is one of the first special 2DS XLs since the console made its debut, and no doubt the first of many that'll be rolling out in time with new game releases, just like this one is coming out alongside Detective Pikachu.

You and the talking Pikachu will team up to check out Ryme City, question witnesses, and collect clues to figure out what exactly happened to Tim's dad.

However, the announcement of Detective Pikachu for the west means more goodies. Tim's father has gone missing, and Pikachu helps search for him.

Before there was Ryan Reynolds as Detective Pikachu in the upcoming film, there was a Japanese 3DS game called Great Detective Pikachu.

We're hopeful the amiibo will come to Australia too, we'll let you know when we hear from Nintendo Australia. While the man who voices Pikachu in the trailer (and presumably the game) is clearly not DeVito, he still nails the role.

The Detective Pikachu movie is set for release on May 10, 2019.

Get ready to walk, talk, and solve mysteries with Pikachu in Detective Pikachu when it releases on March 23, 2018 for $39.99.
