As temps rise, forecasters warn of flooding, then more wintry weather


According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are forecast to increase well into the 50s to around 60 on Friday, and a period of moderate to heavy rain will also move through Long Island Friday into Saturday. Some areas could come close to 4 inches of rain.

At these levels, flooding is expected along the St. Clair River.

Talking to WWJ's Sandra McNeill on Friday, Friedland said homes along the river in East China Township already have flooding on the lawns.

On Friday morning, public works departments reported no flooding but expressed concern over the potentially unsafe road conditions on Saturday.

Because of the flooding threat, St. Clair County Emergency Manager Jeff Friedland said he may have to call for evacuations from the shore to the road, a first in 30 years. "The water is coming up fairly quick. They are going to be doing an upbound vessel escort and then a downbound escort, and they are going to check to see if there is a blockage".

Officials in St Clair County are keeping an eye on a few dozen homes that are in danger of flooding.

At the observed level, multiple roadways are impacted by flooding near the St. Clair River. Many homes and structures may also become threatened.

However, with forecasters predicting rain across the entire Susquehanna basin, a lot of water will be quickly flowing down stream through Saturday night into Monday. Given the much colder air in place, conditions will remain favorable for ice blockages through Sunday.

A water rescue occurred in Powhatan Point, Ohio when a vehicle drove into a flooded roadway early Friday.
