Apple users will be able to disable performance slowdowns

Released previous year, the phone-slowing software was meant to ensure that iPhone users did not get disconnected in the middle of an important text message or call because of an old battery, Cook said. An update for consumers will follow.

Late a year ago Apple admitted the existence of an iOS power management feature after a Geekbench test found a connection between iPhone performance and battery age while investigating a post from a Reddit user, who had found that an iPhone became faster after replacing the battery.

French prosecutors in January opened a probe over the battery-slowdown controversy, which is now being handled by France's competition and consumer protection authority, the DGCCRF.

Apple announced today that it will be investing $350 billion in the US economy over the next five years, creating more than 20,000 jobs. "We have a deep sense of responsibility to give back to our country and the people who help make our success possible", Cook said in a press release. He said, "And so we deeply apologise for anybody that thinks we had some other kind of motivation".

It said measures have been taken to ensure the safety of its servicemen in Afrin, and some troops have been relocated. Earlier this week, the US -led coalition against Islamic State confirmed that such a unit was to be built.

In Italy, antitrust watchdog AGCM launched a probe into allegations of planned obsolescence against Apple and its main smartphone rival, Samsung. In Korea, the Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office said it formally assigned the case to the intellectual property crime unit, The Korea Herald reports.

Apple now faces dozens of class action lawsuits in the United States for degrading the performance of iPhones. "We apologize", Apple said in a statement on December 28.

Tim Cook says a future iOS update will give older iPhone users the option to disable Apple's ramping down of performance, which Apple claimed was done to improve power management and prevent unexpected shutdowns in many iPhone 6 models. In addition, users will also be given the option to disable the throttling to maintain normal CPU performance. To offset the complaints, Apple reduced the cost of replacement batteries to $29 in a public apology to its customers.

Soon after that, Apple confirmed that the slowdown is a feature introduced in iOS via an update in early 2017 that was supposed to fix unexpected iPhone shutdowns and reboots. "This hasn't been done before".
