Ockhi cyclone: Search operations to continue in Kerala; toll 58


Three bodies were found from Beppur coast in Kozhikode and one from Chellanam near Kochi coast this morning.

The recovery of more bodies has lifted the death toll to 56 in Kerala state.

Chennai, Dec 13 The Tamil Nadu government today increased compensation to families of persons not belonging to fishermen community, killed in cyclone Ockhi in that district. There are two types of boats that the fishermen use - one is the small boat and the other is the big one, which returns from fishing after several weeks.

State's Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had also made an appeal to all political parties, institutions and the public to donate generously to the special fund.

"It has been made a decision to give Rs 20 lakh each as compensation in one tranche to the near and dear ones of those who have died; Rs five lakh each to those who have been permanently disabled and Rs 20,000 each to all those who had undergone treatment".
