Buhari hints on seeking re-election, says 'people of Kano in my pocket'

The presidential aide on social media, Bashir Ahmad, tweeted as President Muhammadu Buhari started a two day official visit to Kano, Nigeria's second most populated state.

He was received on arrival by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and top government functionaries.

Buhari said the amnesty was part of federal government's effort to decongest prisons in the country and urged the beneficiaries of the gesture to be of good behaviour and shun anything that could bring them back to the prison in future.

According to Buhari, "I know the elections".

"I am overwhelmed by the reception the people of Kano offered to me. The people of Kano are aware of the tremendous jobs we did on security and agriculture", Buhari said.

He congratulated Governor Abdullahi Ganduje for working very hard to improve the living standard of the people of the state through execution of projects that had direct bearing on them.

The president will equally lay the foundation of the famous Kano Economic City and inspect 2,000 affordable housing units constructed by Ganduje-led administration.

The 500 inmates were either pardoned or set free upon the payment of fines by the Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

"We are determined to better the life of our people", he stated, as he commended the Kano Emirate which he said consistently supported him in all the public offices he occupied.

Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital and Paediatric Hospital, Zoo Road were projects first initiated by Ibrahim Shekarau's administration who governed the state between 2003 and 2011.
