The students of the Sathyabama Deemed University in Chennai set things inside the campus on fire after a girl student, who was allegedly caught cheating in an exam, allegedly committed suicide in her hostel room.

Her body has been sent to Royapettah Government Hospital for post-mortem. The deceased, identified as 18-year-old Duvvuru Monica Reddy of Andhra Pradesh, is said to have committed suicide after she was caught cheating during an exam and was reprimanded for the same.

Protesters claimed that university staff had humiliated the student.

A report in The New Indian Express says that after she went back to her hostel, she messaged her twin brother who studies in the same department of the University. Videos and pictures posted on Twitter showed mattresses and furniture set on fire. By 7.30pm on Wednesday, the protests soon spiralled into violence and arson.

A student was quoted by TNM as saying: "They burnt stuff outside first-year men's hostel". None of the buildings were damaged, I think.

Varun found clicking selfie while driving, Police warns via tweet
The photos, or the caption alongside them, did not make it clear whether Varun shot the selfie while his vehicle was in motion. An e-challan has been sent to the actor's home and he got off lightly this time, Varun was told. "Next time, V will B harsher".

Mobile footage also show several students protesting demanding justice for Ragamonika.

The situation has been brought under control now, said police officials.

The police was stationed in the campus later to prevent further violence.

However, one student TNM spoke to said that the campus is still tensed.

Following this, the students of Sathyabama University has reportedly claimed that Radha Mounika was a brilliant student and she could not commit any malpractice.
