But what's 'Shazam!' all about?
Marilyn Manson: Assault Rifle Stunt 'Not Meant to be Disrespectful'
Alderete's debut was overshadowed by Manson's pointing of a rifle at the crowd. It turned out that the two shooters were not fans of his music.
This may all sound a bit confusing and it will likely take some getting used to for newcomers to the character, but the idea of a kid being able to transform into a superhero at will simply by shouting, "Shazam!" is a fun conceit. Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke penned the script. Peter Safran, who worked with Sandberg on the Annabelle sequel, will produce. Shazam will be the next film produced in the DC Cinematic Universe before Flashpoint, Batgirl and Suicide Squad 2. The announcement of Angel as a lead in the film follows news last week that DC was in negotiations with Kingsman: The Golden Circle's Mark Strong to play Billy Batson's nemesis, the villainous Doctor Sivana. The name is an acronym of the ancient gods and historical figures Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury, who Batson derives his heroic attributes from when in adult form. David Sandberg, who most recently filmed Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation, will direct Shazam. Dwayne Johnson is attached to play Black Adam in that pic.
As for Asher Angel, he's perhaps best known as Jonah Beck in the hit Disney TV series, "Andi Mack"... but has also starred in "Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn" as well as starring in the upcoming film, "On Pointe".
Shazam will open on April 5, 2019.
