Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll 'surprised' by poor offensive line play

It is just one game, but if the Packers get this type of pass rush from their defensive front throughout the season, it will be tough for opposing offenses to get going. But the game looked more like two teams that were not ready for the regular season to start.

After a three-and-out by Seattle, Rodgers went to work again.

Driving from their 17 to the Seattle 39, Rodgers threw a quick, short pass to his right but defensive end Nazair Jones snatched the pass and took off 76 yards for an apparent touchdown but Cliff Avril was called for an illegal block in the back against a frantic Rodgers trying to chase down the play. "We were in the backfield a bunch". Seattle was unable to stop Green Bay's four-man rushes, forcing Wilson to be on the move nearly every time he attempted a pass.

McCarthy's final timeout came with 43 seconds left. More importantly, he was on the field for more third down snaps, and after Sunday, the Packers would be insane not to keep it that way.

Surprisingly, it was Green Bay's offense that started off cold to open the season. On first down, Daniels blew through the line and with help from Nick Perry, sacked Wilson for a loss of 10.

The Seahawks got 90 yards on the ground, led by Wilson's 40 yards on two carries. Montgomery's touchdown gave the Packers the lead, a lead they didn't relinquish.

Seattle answered with a field goal of their own, a 41-yard attempt that left Blair Walsh a ideal three for three on the day. The Packers suffocated the Seahawks receivers, which made it extremely hard for Wilson to find an open receiver. Lockett beat his man and got free for what could have been a 57-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

The drive would stall there, however, and kicker Blair Walsh sent the teams to halftime with Seattle up 3-0 after the field goal.

Green Bay took a 14-6 lead with 17 seconds left in the third quarter, as Rodgers caught the Seahawks in a defensive substitution and got the snap quickly, then flipped a pass over the middle to Jordy Nelson for a 32-yard TD.

Roethlisberger completed 24 of 36 passes for 263 yards. "It starts on the line of scrimmage".

Rodgers finished 28 of 42 for 311 yards, a score and a pick for a passer rating of 86.5. However, it wasn't the defense that most thought would perform at an elite level.

The Green Bay Packers' defense, which stood in the way of a trip to last year's Super Bowl, is why the Packers beat the Seattle Seahawks in Sunday's season opener.

Nelson had 7 catches for 79 yards and the score, going over 500 receptions for his career, joining an exclusive company along with Donald Driver, James Lofton and Sterling Sharpe.

Ty Montgomery rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown on offense for the Packers, but they couldn't have done it without a staunch effort from their defense.

The Packers kept Seattle out of the end zone and limited quarterback Russell Wilson to 158 passing yards on 14-of-27 accuracy to earn a 17-9 victory on Sunday.
