New concept previews Mini electric vehicle coming in 2019

An all-electric series production model is due in 2019, but Mini doesn't say it will look like the Mini Electric Concept.

The electric Mini is also set to go into production within the next two years at the company's Oxford plant in the UK. As a finishing touch, at the rear the tail lamp design has been inspired by the Union Jack flag.

The concept is called the Urban EV, and right now all we have is this teaser which likely shows an exterior charge status indicator or possibly the car's instrument cluster.

More than 600 Mini E cars entered service worldwide for the field study, which provided insights into the daily use of all-electric cars. This signals that the British small vehicle specialist is on course to introduce its first electric production mdel in 2019.

According to Article 46 of the collective bargaining agreement, there is no set timeframe in which a decision must be rendered. Following Tuesday's hearing, both sides will have until September 1 to make their final arguments to Henderson.

Mini will preview the vehicle with this thinly veiled Mini Electric concept debuting next month at the 2017 Frankfurt auto show.

"That's how we at Mini envisage electric mobility in tomorrow's world".

German carmaker BMW has unveiled the basic design for the full-production electric version of the next Mini auto. The production version of the Mini Electric isn't expected before 2019. The wild looking 19-inch wheels are meant to remind of the radiator grille of the auto and the wheels have aerodynamic inlays made using 3D printing. The grille and headlights have been tweaked to account for the fact that the electric motor doesn't need a massive front-mounted hole shoving air into the engine bay - by closing it, Mini actually improves the aerodynamics. Over 600 MINI E cars entered service worldwide for the goal of the field studies. The LED headlights feature a new graphic not seen before. Body parts additional to the standard body structure are mostly made from fiberglass with some constructed using a 3D printing process. This familiar approach from MINI, where the car's volume steadily increases from the top down, makes the shoulders appear broad and athletic. We have no idea how much power the vehicle offers or its driving range.
