29th Southeast Asian Games kicks off in Malaysia

To be aired on Singtel TV and social media channels during the SEA Games from 19 August through 30 August, the "Power On" video series will also feature each of the athletes in six 60-second videos in which they talk about their motivations and vulnerabilities representing Singapore at the regional meet.

Performers from the host country wearing colorful costumes showcased dazzling routines and synchronized acts, along with dancing LED lights in the two-hour-long ceremony boasting Malaysia's rich culture, a display that delighted nearly 5,000 competing athletes from 11 member nations.

Malaysia, the silver medallist at the 2015 Singapore SEA Games made four tries and one conversion, while Singapore had one try and one conversion.

About 4,200 athletes are competing for 404 gold medals in sports ranging from boxing and equestrianism to petanque, speed skating and lawn bowls at the popular and unique SEA Games. I Gede Siman Sudartawa was the flag bearer, while Aziz Syamsuddin was the Chef-de-Mission.

The biennial SEA Games, formerly the Southeast Asian Peninsula Games, have been running since 1959, when the region was still emerging from its long era of colonialism.
